Living in a fairly traditional home in Palo Alto, California, the clients decided to create a more contemporary look with their outdoor renovation. They built a driveway gate with two doors to enclose the backyard and to keep their children and dogs safe.
The fence and gate were built two-sided, with an internal metal frame clad with 1-by material installed horizontally across the framing.
Being a double driveway gate, one of the panels is held firm to the ground with a cane bolt. The client chose an 18-inch contemporary stainless steel cane bolt, which was installed directly into the concrete of the driveway. When they want to open both doors of the driveway they simply lift the cane bolt, rest it in its bracket, and open the door.
The active gate of the double gate has the latch on the interior, as it is an in-swinging gate. The client chose the Alta Contemporary Lever Latch to complete the contemporary look of their exterior fence and gate project. The Alta Latch is made of marine grade stainless steel, has a brushed finish, and coordinates well with the design of their fencing.
