Festive Driveway Gate

Even though January was a long year, we don’t mind flashing back to more festive times…and this month’s photo contest winner brought us back to the holidays!

Dark Bronze Ring Latch 60-101 Coastal Bronze on Driveway Gate with Dummy on adjacent gate

We love how our customer enhanced this driveway gate with a Dark Bronze Ring Latch from Coastal Bronze; and complimented the scene with a Dark Bronze Ring Dummy on the adjacent gate.

When gates are going to be hung between two columns (brick, stone, travertine), the best practice is to mount wood jambs to the columns, and then install hinges and latches. Prowell Woodworks has a great explanation with photos – we refer you to that, so we don’t recreate the wheel. Scroll to the section titled “Jambs” to get to the details. There’s a section afterward about “Mishaps” that is actually a great read. This is a double gate that was mounted to stone columns. They used a metal jamb attached to the stone column, and installed the hinges to it. This is a rare approach to jambs, but the effect is really great.
