A Labor of Love in the form of a double gate

Sometimes we have a customer who loves the details and wants to understand everything ahead of time. This always leads to a wonderful outcome. They’ve dotted all the i’s and crossed all the t’s. This double gate project built by Dick was one of these. What the preparation does is guarantee a long-lasting, trouble-free installation.

This is a double outswinging gate. It swings away from the house toward the street. We appreciate the alignment of the two gates and that the space where the two gates meet is completely even. You can see the ring gate latch (latching side) on the exterior.

On the inside left you can see the ring handle that operates the latch on the exterior. On the inside right you see a dummy handle that’s installed for symmetry. In the lower part of the photo is the cane bolt that’s creating stability for the double gate. It holds the inactive gate to the ground and provides a solid foundation for the active gate to close against.

You may notice there’s no metal gate stop! Gate stops don’t always need to be metal. Dick installed a full board of wood to the inactive gate to ‘catch’ the active gate when it closes. Well done!

Thank you for sharing your hard work, Dick! Two thumbs up from Team 360!
